Workplace Accident Investigation

This course will use case studies to investigate accidents in the workplace and show participants what went wrong. This will help participants learn how to take action that can reduce or prevent accidents in the workplace. The course is particularly suitable for safety professionals with responsibility for assessing current risk control measures in the workplace.

Combining formal lectures and discussions, Workplace Accident Investigation will give you the skills, confidence and qualifications to:

  • Define the legal requirement for investigating after an accident and reporting it to the relevant authorities.
  • Understand how to carry out an accident investigation in the workplace.
  • Describe how accidents and dangerous occurrences are required to be reported in line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Reporting of Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences) Regulations 2016 (S.I. No. 370 of 2016).
  • Develop strategies to improve the reporting of incidents and accidents.
  • Describe the benefits which can arise from completing an accident report to an organisation, such as the identification of a remedial action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Gather evidence in a methodical manner and report what is known and unknown in an objective and unbiased way.
  • Compile data into a meaningful format for interpretation by higher management.

Timing

The course will be delivered over five days with 30 hours of lectures. Students will need to complete a written examination within a week of completion. They will also need to complete 70 hours of additional work and submit a relevant project within six weeks of the written examination
