Fire Safety Manager I

This course is designed to enable the participant to conduct a fire risk assessment in any workplace or premises. Participants will learn how to compare existing fire control measures with the requirements of the relevant legislation and best practice. They will gain a comprehensive understanding of preventative action and the management of a safety programme for the control of fire in the workplace.

Combining formal lectures and discussions, Fire Safety Manager I will give you the skills, confidence and qualifications to:

  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the legislation (and legislation as it develops) covering fire safety.
  • Discuss how a fire can start in the workplace and how to recognise potential hazardous situations that could lead to fire.
  • Recognise the components that make up the fire triangle and the chemical reaction that takes place when combustion occurs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in training staff in fire prevention, action to be taken on detection of a fire and evacuation procedures in the event of a fire.
  • Explain the emergency procedures which must be applied when a fire starts.
  • Demonstrate a fire evacuation plan and train the personnel to react correctly to an evacuation alarm.

Timing

The course will be delivered over five days with 30 hours of lectures. Students will need to complete a written examination within a week of completion. They will also need to complete 70 hours of additional work and submit a relevant project within six weeks of the written examination.
