07 Nov Shocking Figures from RSA
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has released an infographic which shows where the 159 road deaths this year have taken place.
Leitrim and Carlow are the only two counties without a road fatality. Dublin (18) and Cork (18) recorded the highest number of road deaths, which occurred between January and October. This represents a 30 person increase on the same time last year.
RSA spokesperson Brian Farrell described the figures as an “appalling level of carnage”.
“If anything is to come from such a loss of life is that is reminds us that the roads are dangerous places and the most dangerous thing we do every day is use the roads,” Mr Farrell said.
“But by doing simple things like going back to the basics we can ensure that we reduce that level of carnage.
“That means doing simple things like wearing high visibility jackets, making sure the lights in our vehicle are working properly.”
