COVID-19 Return to Work Safely

Getting Back to Work – A Checklist for Employers has been devised by the National Irish Safety Organisation to assist members in your planning for getting back to work. This checklist should be read in conjunction with the Return to Work Safely Protocol as issued by the Department of Business Enterprise and Innovation. It is not intended to be read in isolation.

The checklist is generally applicable to all industry sectors. It is not designed to prohibit the introduction of further specific measures in particular sectors or workplaces as long as they enhance the measures set out in the Protocol.

Note: this is a non exhaustive checklist that describes what steps employers and workers shall take in order to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.

COVID-19 Return to Work Prompts

As the country slowly starts to return to work in a staged and organised way in accordance with Government and Health guidelines it is important that employers and employees exercise caution on the resumption of work.

Overall the higher standards of hygiene to which we have all become accustomed over the last number of weeks should be maintained and indeed this higher standard can be a positive measure for all workplaces. Remember that a high standard of hygiene prevents a wide range of skin diseases and respiratory illness.

As you prepare for your employees returning perhaps you should consider the attached suggestions. These suggestions are not an exhaustive list but are intended as prompts to get you thinking and prepared for a safe return to the workplace.

Guidelines issued by the HSE, HSA, CIF, WHO and other reputable agencies were consulted in the compilation of this list.
