The All Ireland Occupational Safety Quiz Finals, which is run jointly by the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG), returned this year following a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 restrictions. This year the Quiz Finals included a number of teams that qualified at regional level in 2020 but did not get the chance to compete in the Safety Quiz Finals as the event had to be cancelled.

A total of eight teams competed from all parts of the island of Ireland. There was a great turnout at the event held at the Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, with great support for the participating teams from their co-workers.

The results in the Previous Entrants category finals were very close with Eurofins Professional Scientific Services, Co. Cork, emerging as the overall winners with 104 points [out of a maximum of 128 marks] ahead of runners-up, Rosderra Irish Meats Group, Co. Offaly, who finished a close second place with 101 points. Following very close behind in third place, with a total of 100 points, was BioMarin International Ltd., Co. Cork. The other teams in this category also performed strongly.

In the Novice Category finals BioMarin International Ltd., Co. Cork were the clear winners finishing with 73 points [out of a maximum of 96 points]. The runners-up in this category, Sensori Facilities Management Ltd. performed well with 64 points, followed close behind by Breedon Ireland who received 63 points.

Harry Galvin, President, National Irish Safety Organisation and Ashleigh Birkett, Chair, Northern Ireland Safety Group, presented the awards and trophies at a special prize-giving dinner that evening and congratulated all participating teams.

Mr Galvin commended all the quiz teams, noting that each and every participant should be proud of their efforts to improve occupational health and safety. Mr Galvin also thanked the participating organisations’ managers for the support and encouragement shown to their teams.

Ms Birkett congratulated the participants and commended all the work put in by the teams for the All Ireland Safety Quiz finals.
