A short coffee break webinar for NISO Members on Trigger Thumb followed by a Q&A session delivered by Colin Roche.
Trigger thumb or trigger finger is a symptom which causes the finger of the hand to become locked after it has been bent (flexed) or locked in a bent position. It is difficult to straighten out without pulling on it with the other hand. It can be caused by excessive use on smart devices.
The finger/thumb makes a popping or clicking sound when it is pulled straight. This clicking may be worse in the morning. Sometimes there is mild pain and/or a small swelling at the base of the affected finger or thumb.
One or more fingers may be affected. Trigger finger most commonly affects your little finger, ring finger or thumb. It is usually more common in the right hand.
This webinar is designed to highlight the issues and provide some advice on how to use smart devices appropriately to reduce the likelihood of this occurring.
