PHECC First Aid Response (FAR)

NISO First Aid Response (FAR) training is a three day, PHECC approved course. The PHECC FAR course is recognised by the Health and Safety Authority as the standard for first aid at work and meets the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations.

Employers are required to have a number of certified Occupational First Aiders in the workplace to administer first aid as required by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the (General Application) Regulations 2007.

The number of First Aiders required is specified in the HSA Guidelines on First Aid at Places of Work.


Objectives

  • To provide the participants with the necessary skills to administer effective first aid in the workplace;
  • To deal with emergencies;
  • To assess and treat injuries;
  • To maintain care and comfort of the casualty until medical treatment can be provided;
  • To comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Persons who want to qualify as first aid responders for their workplace.

  • Patient Assessment
  • Incident Procedures
  • Cardiac First Response (CPR & AED, Choking and Stroke)
  • Common Medical Emergencies (Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, Poisoning and Fainting)
  • Injury Management and Shock (Bleeding, Bone Injuries, Sprains, Strains and Dislocations, Shock)
  • Care of the Unconscious Patient
  • Burns and Electrical Injury Care
  • Hypothermia and Hyperthermia
  • Information Management and Communications
  • The Well-Being of the First Aid Responder


Methodology
This course is highly interactive.
Theory is followed by skill demonstrations and practical application by participants.

Requirements
A good working knowledge of English, both written and oral.

Assessment
Multiple Choice Questionnaire and Skills Demonstration.

Course Certification / Validation
A PHECC FAR certificate is issued to all successful participants which is valid for two years. A two-day refresher course must be attended within this period to keep the certificate valid.
