Safety Representation is a one day seminar running from 09.30hrs to 16.00hrs, organised by National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO).

Safety Representation Overview

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, workers may select and appoint from among their fellow employees a Safety Representative. The Safety Representative role includes the undertaking of tasks such as workplace inspections, accident investigation, investigation of complaints and consultation on workplace health and safety matters.


Seminar Objectives

  • To encourage participation by the workforce in health and safety matters.
  • To encourage Safety Representatives in industry.
  • To highlight the distinction between health and safety matters and industrial relations issues.
  • To inform participants of the role and rights of Safety Representatives and their inclusion on safety matters.
  • To inform management of the rights or Safety Representatives how to communicate with their work colleagues and management within the organisation.
  • To encourage a good working relationship between workers and management in the interest of health and safety.
  • To ensure that safety representatives know training is available to increase knowledge about health and safety matters to make a positive contribution.
  • To gain an understanding of the legal duties of employers, managers and employees in respect of health and safety.
  • To encourage safety consultation within the workplace.

Seminar Fee: €100 NISO members / €125 non members

Duration:
One day from 09.30hrs to 16.00hrs.

Certificate of Attendance:
Participants who have successfully completed the training will be issued with a NISO certificate of attendance.
There is no assessment but active participation is required.

Speakers:

National Irish Safety Organisation
A speaker from the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) will participate in this programme. NISO’s speakers are health and safety professionals with the experience and know-how to deliver exceptional training, sharing insights and real life scenarios. When it comes to safety training, the ability to apply lessons to real life situations is imperative – our training objectives go beyond simply getting our learners through the seminar.

Health and Safety Authority
An inspector from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) will discuss the role of the HSA and also workplace risk and hazard identification and assessment. The HSA inspector will also outline the HSA resources that are available to Safety Representatives.
