China: 67 workers killed

All but three of 70 workers on a power plant in the Jiangxi province in China were killed when a platform supporting building cranes collapsed. Sixty seven workers were killed, two survivors were taken to hospital and one remains missing.
The cause of the accident is unclear. The company behind the construction of the power plant launched a campaign entitled “Work Hard Together for 100 Days” in September, calling on workers at the power station to speed up construction while heeding work safety.
Jiangxi’s Deputy Governer, Li Yihuang, said that the cause of the accident would be investigated and that “All departments in the province must learn from this accident, conduct a systematic check and address all the safety risks”.
