NISO Supports All-Island Work at Height Campaign
“Working at Height, Working Together: Help Us Save Lives”
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA), the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) and the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is launching an All–Island Work at Height Campaign running from 16 February to 1 March.
The joint campaign is aimed at reducing the persistent number of serious incidents and fatalities caused by falls, particularly in the construction sector, but relevant to all workplaces. Over the last decade (2016–2025) 68 fatalities occurred in construction and 33 in agriculture due to falls from height across the island of Ireland, reaffirming that this remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury in both sectors.
The campaign will combine promotional activity with a programme of targeted inspections to ensure compliance with legal requirements for working at height, including:
- safe systems of work,
- adequate planning,
- competent workers,
- and appropriate equipment such as scaffolding, ladders and fall-prevention systems.
- Sharing campaign messages and materials through social media and available communication channels using the hashtag #FallsArePreventable
- Reviewing and sharing useful resources including the HSA’s campaign materials, guidance and case studies and the HSENI’s Falls from Height guidance.
- Most importantly, stopping and taking a moment to check that any work carried out at height can be done safely.
