The National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) fully supports the call from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) for extra resources to police health and safety in the workplace. NISO been calling for the restoration of HSA staffing levels for the last number of years.

With deaths in the workplace now at an average of one per week it is long past the time for inaction by government.

We need to see a coordinated approach from government to the whole area of health and safety.

In response to the call for extra resources, NISO President Harry Galvin said “it is only with a fully committed and coordinated accident prevention programme the we will achieve any reduction in the rate of workplace fatalities in Ireland”.
